Synopsis

A fictional era. Japan is the most powerful country in the world. The Japanese yen is the most valuable currency, and illegal immigrants from around the globe fill the outskirts of Tokyo to earn it. In a world where dreams have disappeared, a fateful event strikes four young people who remain endlessly bright and passionate.

  • Shunji Iwai
  • Born in Miyagi Prefecture in 1963, Shunji Iwai began creating a variety of visual works, including TV dramas and music videos, in 1988, establishing a signature style known as the "Iwai Aesthetic." Since his feature debut with Love Letter (1995), he has directed films such as Swallowtail Butterfly (1996), All About Lily Chou-Chou (2001), and Hana and Alice (2004). He continues to push genre boundaries, with recent projects including the drama adaptation of Kyrie’s Song (2023) titled Luca on the Road (2024).
