Synopsis
In the 1990s, Mauricio, a famous Spanish rock musician, travels to Latin America to rekindle his passion for music. During his journey, he meets Don Carlos, a veteran musician facing hard times, who kindly takes him in and becomes his musical mentor. Their unexpected encounter leads to an unusual musical alliance that, despite seeming destined for commercial failure, marks the start of an unforgettable Quixote-like adventure.
Program Note
Mauricio, the leader of a rock band based in Zaragoza, Spain, finds himself in a slump. With his personal life and band career in disarray, he impulsively travels to Argentina, following in the footsteps of a musician he admires. There, he meets a new mentor who inspires him. The Blue Star takes the form of a classic road movie, yet it stands out with its documentary-like touch. The film beautifully captures the warm landscapes of the Argentine countryside, the simple beauty of folk music, and the tranquility that Mauricio finds among the kind-hearted people he encounters. The natural performance of Pepe Lorente, who is both the lead actor and a singer, allows this sense of peace to deeply resonate with the audience throughout the film. (Choi Eunyoung)
