Synopsis

Our town is an island. An island surrounded by rice paddies instead of the sea. Even though we would cross that sea of fields, riding in cars and going to and fro as usual, we always thought the three of us would stay together in this village for a lifetime. But just as Yoonseul came in from outside that day, today, Haemoon is leaving from the inside to the outside. Before Haemoon leaves, what can we leave behind?

Program Note

Among three childhood friends, one decides to leave their hometown in search of their dream. As with all separations, being left behind is a natural part of relationships, and how we deal with such farewells is a recurring theme in human connections. The three protagonists share a brief moment of suspended time before stepping into their respective futures. They engage in everyday conversations, sing gentle music together, and wander through their unpretentious hometown landscapes. The opening sequence, where the characters sit side by side on a summer campus enjoying ice cream and talking, beautifully captures the film’s affectionate approach to valuing a precious moment.   • Kim Seungju
  • Starting in 2013 with a high school film club and performing an original song with friends, Seungju Kim began creating short films. In 2020, after releasing his first album, he started his music career through the music and music video production crew, Lazy Monday Crew. This led to creating music for short films made by people he met along the way. Using these connections, he gathered those he had worked with to produce his first short film, Out of Town(2024). Seungju Kim is currently working towards producing music films based on original music, inspired by the 2000s indie bands and the early indie music festivals and live cafes in Hongdae, which he fondly remembers.
