Synopsis
My Grey Zone: Radio Revolution is an intimate dive into the life and career of Radio Revolution, a veteran of the underground electronic music scene. This documentary captures his journey from humble beginnings to becoming an influential figure in the Korean underground music landscape. As the world becomes increasingly captivated by Korean culture and music, “MGZ: Radio Revolution” sheds light on the untouched, yet vibrant underground scene that has often remained in the shadows of mainstream success. Featuring insights from key figures like Sang-soon Lee and Chae-ryung Lee, the film delves into the dual aspects of a DJ’s existence, showcasing both the exhilarating performances and the personal sacrifices involved.
Program Note
His name is Hwang Doo-gi, but he's better known on stage as "Radio Revolution." According to fellow DJs, his talent spans a wide range of genres, making it difficult to define him strictly as a house, disco, deep techno, or minimal DJ. This documentary first highlights his impressive stage career and the high regard his peers have for him, before delving into the personal side of his life, exploring the challenges he faces as a DJ and what he seeks in life. The film emphasizes Hwang Doo-gi's statement that he strives for balance, never leaning too far in one direction as either Hwang Doo-gi or Radio Revolution. This is encapsulated in the title "My Grey Zone." (Huh Nam-woong)
