Synopsis

Joanna (24, B-Girl) and Serhat(26, B-Boy) share the same passion: Breaking. In 2024, Breaking will celebrate its Olympic premiere in Paris. They are happy about the opportunity to make their art form more visible to society. At the same time, it is a challenge to do justice to the breaking culture and the Olympic system. From the street to the Olympic stage: Breaking, a new style of dance, was born in New York in the 1970s. Today B-Boys and B-Girls compete in battles that are judged by a jury. For the first time in history, the breaking scene meets the Olympic system. Joanna and Serhat push their limits. To what extent do they manage not to lose their passion for the original culture with the ever-increasing performance requirements?

Program Note

"Breaking is my life!" The 2024 Paris Olympics feature breakdancing as an official event for the first time. 2unbreakable tells the story of Serhat, a breaking dancer from Dresden, and Joanna, a dancer from Munich, who are preparing for the biggest sports challenge of their lives with the goal of competing in the Olympics. Set to a hip-hop beat soundtrack, the film dazzles with the dancers' fantastic jumps and acrobatics. Beyond the glamorous dance, it offers a serious portrayal of two breakdancers who must navigate the acceptance of setbacks and defeats, balancing their academic or professional futures with their families' concerns, and finding their own paths.   • Born in 1967 in Starnberg, Germany, she studied at the Stage School in Hamburg from 1986 to 1987 and was a guest student at the University of Television and Film Munich. Since 1996, she has worked as a documentary filmmaker.
