Synopsis

The girl from Manly beach, now a woman with so many firsts to her name, she's tired of the whole "woman" title that follows her around. Simone Young, an Australian, is one of the world-renowned conductors, particularly for her expertise in German and Austrian opera and classical music. But above all, she is a woman. This film focuses on her life, shaped by the intersection of classical music, conducting, and being a woman—an undoubtedly challenging path. It captures the emotional moments of reconnecting with the world through music after overcoming the pandemic while also exploring the story of a woman who has survived and thrived in an extremely conservative, male-dominated field.   • Janine Hosking's career highlights include producing and directing the feature documentaries My Khmer Heart and Gania Queen for HBO and having Mademoiselle and the Doctor screen to critical acclaim at both Australian and international film festivals. My Khmer Heart won best documentary at the Hollywood Film Festival and was shortlisted for Academy Award nomination. - The feature documentary, 35 Letters, won Best documentary at the Sydney Film Festival. Janine's feature documentary The Eulogy, featuring former Prime Minister Paul Keating, premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival and was distributed by Madman Entertainment and was nominated for 2019 ACCTA award for Best Documentary.
