Synopsis

Some time has passed since the contaminated water from Fukushima was released into the ocean. Youngnam flies to Jeju Island to clean up his old house. There, he is reunited with his old friend Yurim, who is cleaning up marine debris with her colleagues.

Program Note

How to Dive with Dolphins is a work that compels viewers to confront the ocean and nature, evoking a sense of a long-forgotten home. After the release of contaminated water forces him to leave his hometown, Yeongnam returns to Jeju to organize his things and unexpectedly reunites with his old friend Yurim. Yurim works at a diving shop and leads a life of her own, cleaning up ocean debris with her colleagues. The film portrays the emotional transformation Yeongnam undergoes as he rediscovers the ocean of Jeju, moving away from the urban life he had become accustomed to. Reflections on the enduring beauty of nature, despite the destruction caused by humans, reach their peak in the final underwater scene. (Choi Eunyoung)

  • Born in 1989, he has worked as a staff member on several commercial and independent films. Since 2012, he has directed five short films, including Schrodinger's Kitties(2021), which was invited to several festivals.
