Synopsis

Ji-won and Ji-won: an ex-couple who share the same name. After ending their 7-year relationship and indie band career, they reunite on a late summer night. Ji-won arrives with an expectation of an uneventful night, while Ji-won comes with a resolution. The next day, Ji-won ends up day-drinking with former bandmates, and their summer takes an unexpected turn.

Program Note

After seven years together, the music band has disbanded, and it has been a year since then. Ji-won and Ji-won, a couple who were both members of the band and in a relationship, broke up along with the band’s dissolution. Although the man occasionally invites Ji-won over to his place, their relationship no longer continues. The concept of a couple sharing the same name serves as a metaphor for the internal conflict between the Ji-won who wants to continue pursuing music and the Ji-won who has given up music to follow a different path. Ultimately, Ji-won only realizes, after hearing from her partner that she must make a decision on her own, that she had made a choice long ago but had been unable to accept it. The film delicately explores the subtle emotional waves of parting with something you love through a narrative structure that shifts between past and present. (Choi Eunyoung)
