The 20th Jecheon International Music & Film Festival (hereinafter JIMFF, Festival Director Lee Dong-june) announced that a total of 2,674 films were submitted to the feature and short film contest that closed on May 24.

JIMFF conducted a contest for entries divided into three categories, from the international competition to the Korean competition and the local film. JIMFF received public offerings based on films of various genres, including feature, short, dramatic, documentary, animation, and experimental films, in which music is the main subject or music is the main subject.

A total of 2,674 entries were received this year, with 2,074 international competition feature and short films and 600 Korean competition feature and short films. Compared to 1,969 films in the previous year (2023), 705 films (36%) increased, recording the highest number of entries ever. This confirmed once again the keen interest of filmmakers around the world in JIMFF.

The genre of entries this year was the most received with 1,430 dramatic films, followed by 483 documentaries, 332 animations, and 429 other films. In particular, in the case of local contest, individual submissions increased, breaking away from the existing tendency to focus on group submissions, and not only dramatic films but also films of various genres such as documentaries and animations were submitted, confirming the revitalization of independent films.

When categorized by continent, Asia/Oceania, Europe, and North America showed the largest number of entries. By country, Iran had the largest number of entries with 374 films, followed by the United States with 167 films, France with 119 films, Brazil with 80 films, and Egypt/Australia with 29 films.

Programmer Choi Eunyoung of JIMFF said, “Thank you to everyone who submitted entries, and we were able to confirm expectations for the Jecheon International Music & Film Festival, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, through the increase in entries. We will work hard to prepare to present good works to many people who are interested in film music by revitalizing music films and discovering various music-based films.”

JIMFF selects films for screening by dividing them into international competition and Korean competition through the review of the preliminary screening committee. After that, the competition section selects the winning film through screening during the festival, and then announces the results and awards at the closing ceremony. The international competition winner will receive a prize of KRW 20,000,000, and the Korean competition winner will receive a prize of KRW 15,000,000 (1 feature film award 10,000,000, 1 short film award KRW 5,000,000) and a trophy.

The 20th JIMFF, which is raising expectations by recording the largest number of entries ever, is scheduled to be held in the Jecheon City area from September 5th to 10th.
