Synopsis

Misfortune suddenly strikes twelve-year-old Emil. His mother has left for Canada to start a new life, and his father has just lost his job. This heartwarming family film is based on a beloved children’s novel by Erich Kästner. Upon its release, it was praised as the German answer to Home Alone, receiving an enthusiastic response from audiences.

Franziska Buch

A German director and writer, Franziska Buch studied philosophy and literature in Stuttgart, Germany, and Rome, Italy, before continuing her education at the Munich Academy for Television and Film. She began her professional directing career in 1991 and has been teaching screenwriting at the Ludwigsburg Film Academy since 1996.
