Synopsis

Swaroop, a young Muslim boy from a caste of musicians, leaves his desert village with his Uncle Nizam in search of work. His journey takes him to a new and changed society, a globalized India, which greatly contrasts with his traditional way of life. With outstanding traditional Sufi musical performances and a taste of fusion, Milk & Opium leaves the viewer questioning what will become of Swaroop and traditional India.

Joel Palombo

An art teacher and painter, Joel Palombo has produced several short films and video works. His shorts have been screened at the Dallas Museum of Art, the 2005 World Expo in Japan, and the Planet in Focus Film Festival in Toronto. Originally from Detroit, USA, born in 1967, he has lived in India for the past eight years. Milk & Opium is his feature debut.
