Synopsis
Francisco, a poor man living in a mountain village in Brazil, devotes his life to making his two sons into singers. The boys display remarkable musical talent, much to Francisco’s delight. Tragedy strikes when the younger son dies in a car accident, leaving the elder, Mirósma, heartbroken and causing him to quit singing. He later resumes his career under the stage name Zezé Di Camargo, but struggles to find success as a solo artist. It isn’t until his younger brother Luciano joins him that their duet skyrockets to popularity. Based on the true story of Zezé Di Camargo and Luciano—one of Brazil’s most beloved musical duos—the film captures their rise to stardom. It was the highest-grossing film in Brazil in 2005 and the country’s official submission for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2006 Academy Awards. The unwavering devotion of Francisco to his sons’ success is deeply moving, and the powerful performances by the real-life singers and their young counterparts heighten the emotional resonance of the film and its music.
