Synopsis

As the Moldovan Republic is preparing for a visit from the General Secretary of USSR, Leonid Brezhnev, Lautar, a poor musician, finally summons up the courage to ask the local gypsy Baron for his daughter’s hand in marriage. To everyone’s surprise, the Baron gives the couple his blessing, but on one condition: Lautar must convince the Soviet leader to come to the wedding as his matchmaker.

Tigran Keosayan

Born in Moscow in 1964, Tigran Keosayan entered VGIK, the Russian State Institute of Cinematography, in 1984 to study film. He made his debut as an actor in the film Joker (1991), and directed his first feature, Kattava Sheez, the following year. His second film, Poor Sasha (1998), earned him Best Actor at the Kinotavr Film Festival and the TEFI Award for Best Production. His recent works include the musical adaptation of the novel 12 Chairs (2003). In addition to films, Keosayan has directed theater and television series, showcasing his versatility. In 2002, he also starred in the TV series Leading Roles.
