Synopsis

Based on the popular comic book Sunset on Third Street, Always welcomes the audience to ordinary life in Tokyo of the late 1950s. In 1958-when Tokyo Tower is just about to be completed, a variety of characters on Third Street in Yuhi District live their daily lives. There’s a grocery shop, a variety store, a barber… The street is always filled with laughter and joy. The film miraculously rebuilds the world of the 50s using the latest stunning visual effect techniques.

감독

1964년 나가노 출생. 13살 때 <스타워즈>와 <미지와의 조우>를 보고 특수효과 일을 하겠다고 결심하게 됐다. 아사가야 예술대학 졸업 후 이타미 주조 감독의 <마지막 춤 The Last Dance>, <조용한 생활 A Quiet Life> 등에서 작업하며 고도의 시각효과 기술을 익혔다. 2000년 <쥬브나일>로 감독 데뷔하며 시각효과의 새로운 장을 열었다는 평가를 받으며 일본 내 영화제에서 최우수 시각효과상을 받았을 뿐 아니라 이탈리아 지포니 국제 영화제에서 최우수 어린이영화상을 수상하기도 했다. 두 번째 연출작 <리터너>(2002)는 자국 내에서도 성공을 거두었을 뿐 아니라 제7회 부산국제영화제 야외상영작이기도 했다.
