Synopsis

Based on the popular comic book Sunset on Third Street, Always welcomes the audience to ordinary life in Tokyo of the late 1950s. In 1958—when Tokyo Tower is just about to be completed—a variety of characters on Third Street in Yuhi District live their daily lives. There’s a grocery shop, a variety store, a barber… The street is always filled with laughter and joy. The film miraculously rebuilds the world of the 50s using the latest stunning visual effect techniques.

Director

Born in Nagano in 1964. At the age of 13, he was inspired to pursue a career in visual effects after watching and . After graduating from Asagaya College of Art and Design, he honed his skills in advanced visual effects while working on films by director Juzo Itami, such as and . He made his directorial debut in 2000 with , which was acclaimed for opening a new chapter in Japanese visual effects cinema. The film won Best Visual Effects at domestic film festivals and Best Children’s Film at the Giffoni International Film Festival in Italy. His second directorial work, (2002), was a domestic hit and was also screened outdoors at the 7th Busan International Film Festival.
