Synopsis

Meeting his handicapped 16-year-old son for the first time, a young father attempts to forge a relationship with the teenager. Gianni abandoned the boy at birth, when the child’s mother died, and Paulo’s aunt and uncle have raised him. They have contacted and asked Gianni to take Paulo to Berlin for a battery of medical tests. Over a few days, Gianni tries to sort out his obligations and his desires. Will he accept his role as father to this engaging, mercurial, disabled youth?

Gianni Amelio

Born in 1945 in Calabria, Italy. After studying philosophy, he moved to Rome and began working as an assistant director. He spent many years working in television before making his directorial debut in 1982 with . He has won the Best European Film award from the European Film Academy (EFA) three times, and his 1990 film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
