Synopsis

< Never Say Goodbye>, the only Bollywood film presented at this year''s JIMFF, is the story of Dev and Maya who happen to fall for each other in New York City. Married to successful magazine editor Rhea, Dev is a professional football player whose promising career is nipped in the bud after an accident. Maya teaches at a nursery and has married her longtime friend Rishi who is a PR consultant. The surface contentment of the two couples begins to fall apart when a chance encounter between Dev and Maya brings the two closer together. Karan Johar, son of Bollywood master Yash Johar, entered into the Indian film industry at early age and proved his talents in as a director, writer, actor and TV host. His third film < Never Say Goodbye> is the latest exhibit of his burgeoning talent. Asking what happens when you meet the love of your life when it''s too late, the film transcends the cliche of sacrificing the thrill of romance for the security of family. The film cleverly balances between conservative and a rather liberated mindsets and takes us on an emotional rollercoaster of joy and bitterness. This emotional drama -- infused with the bliss of the Bollywood musical dance number -- shocked and challenged Indian film goers with its unflinching look at the uncomfortable subject of adultery. An A-list cast includes Shahrukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji and Abhishek Bachchan.

카란 조하르

1972년 인도 출생인 카란 조하르는 프로듀서였던 아버지 야쉬 조하르 덕에 자연스럽게 배우로 영화 일을 시작했다. 현재 인도의 유명한 감독, 프로듀서, 배우인 그는 감독 데뷔작 < Kuch Kuch Hota Hai>(1998)과 이어서 발표한 가족 코미디 < Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Ghamwas>(2001)로 흥행과 비평 양쪽에서 크게 성공했다. 토크쇼 진행자, 각종 시상식 사회자로도 이름을 날리는 그는 2006년 '세계 경제 포럼'이 선정한 250명의 '글로벌 영 리더'중 한 명으로 뽑히기도 했다.
