Synopsis

Na Du-su is a troublemaker who is a headache to his teachers and others as well. When he learns that his classmate, model student Ho-chul, is having difficulties, he tries his best to help him. In the end, their friendship transforms him from a troublemaker into a good student. Based on the 1976 novel of “Story of Yalkae” by Jo Heun-pa, this film began the boom in youth films and was followed by many sequels. The film was so very popular that the cast, Lee Seung-hyun, Kang Joo-hee and Kim Jung-hoon ? all high school students at the time ? became instant teen stars. It distinguished itself by its speedy and fresh change of scenes, witty lines and well-composed settings. Choi Chang-kwon’s score gives off a western-film-like feeling, yet this perfectly suits a film full of witty images.

석래명

1936년 5월 10일 태어나 경복고를 졸업하고 고려대 법대를 수료하였다. 50여편의 정통 멜로드라마의 조감독을 거쳐 1971년 최무룡, 문희 주연의 <미워도 안녕>으로 감독데뷔를 하였다. 이 후 5년 만에 나온 영화가 바로 명랑소설 '얄개전'을 영화화한 <고교얄개>이다. 이 영화는 말썽꾸러기 나두수 학생의 좌충우돌 말썽담으로 하이틴영화의 신드롬을 일으켰다. 이후 그는 이승현, 김정훈, 강주희를 주연으로 한 <고교 꺼꾸리군 장다리군>, <얄개행진곡>, <여고얄개>, <우리들의 고교시대> 등의 영화를 만들어 냈다. 1980년대에는 하이틴 영화 보다는 대학생을 대상으로 하는 일련의 청춘영화를 내놓았다. 당시 최고의 스타인 최재성, 최수지를 내세운 <아스팔트 위의 동키호테>, 최재성, 박중훈을 내세운 <내사랑 동키호테>가 그러하다. 그가 만든 칠팔십년대 하이틴/청춘영화는 한국영화사에서는 결코 빼놓을 수 없는 큰 자리를 차지하고 있다.
