Synopsis

Director Fernando Trueba—best known for directing the Academy Award-winning film Belle Époque (Best Foreign Language Film) and Two Much starring Antonio Banderas and The Girl of Your Dreams starring Penélope Cruz—is also well known for his deep love of music. He became fascinated with Latin jazz in the 1980s while working with musicians during his filmmaking process, and eventually devoted himself to the genre. This 2000 documentary is a heartfelt tribute to Latin jazz. With dynamic and soulful performances by legendary musicians—including Grammy-winning percussionist Tito Puente, considered the godfather of Latin jazz; Bebo Valdés and Chucho Valdés (who held a concert in Korea the same year); the barefooted Brazilian pianist Eliane Elias; Argentine saxophonist Gato Barbieri; and New York-based Jerry Gonzalez—the film offers a vibrant chronicle of the genre’s rich history and spirit.
