Synopsis
Old-fashioned Soon-yi marries into a rural family. Her only joy in her dull daily life is singing in front of the village ladies. Her mother-in-law forces her to visit her husband, who is serving in the military, every month — but he shows neither affection nor appreciation. One night, while heavily drunk, he suddenly asks her if she loves him. Unable to answer, Soon-yi returns home. The following month, when she goes to visit again, she learns that he has volunteered for a transfer to Vietnam. Her mother-in-law furiously demands that she bring back her only son, and Soon-yi decides to go to Vietnam to find him, though she has no idea where to start. But for a country girl like her, making it to a war-torn land is no easy feat. Soon-yi meets Jung-man and his band, who are preparing to perform for soldiers stationed in Vietnam. With no other choice, she joins the band—taking on the stage name “Sunny”—to find her husband. Now, she sets off toward a land consumed by the blaze of war, where only gunfire and flames fill the horizon…
