Synopsis

Luigi Boccherini (1743-1805) was a composer who lived during the end of the eighteenth century where he composed for 15 years at the Spanish court of Don Luis de Borbón, brother to King Carlos the third. Boccherini was a reputed composer and cellist during his time but has since not enjoyed the same modern-day appreciation. The director’s father, acclaimed Dutch cellist Anner Bylsma, has a great passion for the ‘forgotten’ composer Luigi Boccherini. His dream for many years has been to travel to the abandoned Palacio del Infante don Luis de Borbón where Boccherini lived and wrote what was to be his most important compositions. The film joins Bylsma on his journey to the palace. There, a quintet of the new generation will play Boccherini’s music and Bylsma will try to pass on the secret so the essence of Boccherini’s music won’t be lost.
