Synopsis

Born in Hawaii in the 1880s, the ukulele became one of the most popular instruments in the American home by the 1920s due to its easy playing method. But then the rise of the rock and roll guitar pushed the ukulele into nerdy obscurity. Until now! In the Internet age, the instrument is making a comeback, and a new generation is rediscovering a unique musical voice. Mighty Uke travels the world to chronicle the amazing comeback of a musical underdog.

  • For 20 years, Tony Coleman has worked as a writer, producer, director, editor, and cameraman. He has produced five films, over ten documentaries, and two news series, and has been nominated five times for the Canadian Gemini Award for Film Editing and Visual Effects Design. His recent work includes writing, directing, and editing the CBC pop culture documentary Blue Jean Confidential.
