Synopsis

One night, a young Mexican boy Antonito sneaks out of the house to see a festival for the first time. As he watches rich people there, Antonito realizes that he is very poor with no pesos for an ice cream. The music and dancing are wonderful, and the crowd dances to exhaustion. But for Antonito it’s been a bust. They head home disappointedly after the festival and fall asleep in a haystack on their way back. Antonito begins to dream of a much better festival.

He was the cinematographer for the Academy Award-winning short film *Angel and Big Joe* (1975), and his short animated film *The Calypso Singer*, made in his 20s, is still a beloved classic.
