Synopsis

Hong Kong’s super star Lin Jian-dong is cast in Mainland director Nie Wen’s new musical film. There, he meets his ex-girlfriend Sun Na again, who is now a huge movie star and the director’s girlfriend. 10 years ago, in Beijing, Lin, then a film student, and Sun, a cabaret singer, had fallen in love at first sight. But one day, Sun just left Lin for her career. While Nie still has no clue about their past relationship, the shooting of the movie starts, and reel life and real life begin to overlap. As Lin tries desperately to win back his lost love, the love triangle develops in an unexpected way. This film was selected as the closing film of the 62nd Venice International Film Festival.

    • Born in Hong Kong in 1962, Jin Ga-shin started his career in the film industry after studying in the United States and meeting director John Woo in 1983. His debut film *The Killer* (1991) was a success, winning the Best Actor award at the Hong Kong Film Awards. In 1992, he co-founded the production company UFO, where he released hit films such as *I Want You* (1993), *Forbidden City* (1994), and *Comrades: Almost a Love Story* (1996). *Comrades* was nominated for 11 categories at the Hong Kong Film Awards, winning 9, including Best Picture and Best Director. In 1998, Jin Ga-shin made his Hollywood debut by producing *Love Letter* under DreamWorks SKG. In 2000, he established Applause Pictures to create films such as *The Song of Spring* (2001) and *Three* (2002). In 2005, he directed *Perhaps Love*, the first full musical to be shot in mainland China, which became one of the highest-grossing films in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan that year. *Perhaps Love* was also selected as the closing film of the 62nd Venice International Film Festival. Following this, he directed *The Warlords* (2007) starring Jet Li and Andy Lau and produced *Infernal Affairs IV: The Beginning* (2007) directed by Lau Wai-keung. In 2009, he participated in the production of *The Last Supper* (2009), which focused on nurturing future filmmakers and introducing Chinese-language films. His next film, *Martial Heroes* (2011), was officially invited to the 64th Cannes Film Festival. In 2012, the Hong Kong International Film Festival honored his outstanding contributions to the film industry by naming him a "Director to Watch."
