Synopsis

*Turning* takes the viewer into the world of Antony and the Johnsons as they tour their live concert/performance work, ‘Turning’. In recent years, Antony has been working closely with video artist Charles Atlas. The preliminary result is the critically acclaimed concert ‘Turning’, which is a subtle journey into the feminine universe with Antony's music floating into your ears and Charles Atlas’s visuals in your eyes. 13 ‘beauties’ – transgender women – spinning slowly in the mobile arena. Antony works, both in his performances and in his songs, in a way that examines and challenges traditional perceptions of identity.

  • Charles Atlas is a video artist and dancer who has created numerous visual works in various fields, particularly known for his long collaboration with the legendary choreographer Merce Cunningham. Antony Hegarty, a singer who started with the gay punk band Black Lips in the late 1990s, has been working with Charles Atlas for the past few years, resulting in the work *Turning*.
