Synopsis

One day in 1979, Magnus and his son Nikolaj hit the wall in their new house in Rykkinn. Magnus is an architect, a hippie, and a free spirit, a glaring exception in a community where equality and conformity are the norm. He always stands up for his son, supporting him unconditionally, even when Nikolaj decides to stop caring. *Sons of Norway* is a film about rebellion, punk rock, suburban hell, and the struggle between freaks and punks. But most of all, it’s the story of an unusual father-son relationship and about the strength of the bonds we sometimes do our best to rip apart.

  • Jens Lien’s short films *Close the Door* (2000) and *Natural Glass* (2001) were invited to the Cannes Film Festival and won several awards. His first feature film *Jonny Vang* (2003) was screened at the Berlin Film Festival, and his second feature *The Bothersome Man* (2006) was invited to the Critics' Week at Cannes and won several awards, going on to receive over 30 awards at various film festivals including the Toronto Film Festival.
