Synopsis

Kathleen Hanna, lead singer of the punk band ‘Bikini Kill’ and dance-punk trio ‘Le Tigre’, rose to national attention through the reluctant, but never shy voice of the ‘Riot Girl' movement. She became one of the most famously outspoken feminist icons, a cultural lightning rod. Her critics wished her to shut up, and her fans hoped not to. So in 2005, when Hanna stopped shouting, many wondered why. Through 20 years of archival footage and intimate interviews with Hanna, this film takes viewers on a fascinating tour of contemporary music and offers a never-seen-before view into the life of this fearless leader.

  • Sini Anderson worked for over ten years as a producer and assistant director in various projects, and *Punk Singer* is her first feature documentary. She is currently completing another feature documentary and is preparing her first narrative film, based on a documentary about New York's queer culture in the 1990s.
