Synopsis

Italy, 1948. Young Rocco is growing up in Calabria, until one day, his father Salvatore decides to leave for Belgium, to earn a lot of money by working in coal mines. Rocco becomes a migrant overnight. He wants to be like other youngsters, and have a purpose in life. Against his father’s wish, he seeks an escape through music and love.   • Stijn Coninx, originally from Belgium, graduated from the Brussels RITCS film school and began his career in the film industry by directing short films. His major directorial works such as *Hector*, *Coco Flanel*, and *Dansa* were all successful in Belgium, and *Dansa* (1993) was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. He has also won more than 50 film awards worldwide.
