Synopsis
The head of a traveling theater, Kihachi, arrives at a village long after his first visit. In the village live his old flame Otsune and his own son, Shinkichi. Shinkichi believes his biological father to be dead and thinks Kihachi is his uncle. Kihachi visits Otsune’s house every day to meet Shinkichi, and sometimes goes fishing with his son. As Kihachi confesses who he really is, Shinkichi begs him to settle in their hometown. Nomad as he is, Kihachi cannot stop wandering around the world. All he wishes is for Shinkichi to become a great man. This film is one of the major works by Yasujiro Ozu, also known for its remade version in 1959.
