Program Note

The documentary follows James, a black musician in Italy. A skilled player of the saxophone and trumpet, James has been playing Blues and Soul music and singing in Neapolitan all his life. He was born of a Neapolitan woman and of an American soldier after World War II. His whole life has been a struggle trying to figure out the identity of his music and himself. The documentary traces back to his time in a band called Showmen and continues to calmly convey the story of his life along with the beautiful tunes that give him meaning. (KIM Yoona)
