Program Note
Kim Daehyun, the director who explored the story of the original girl band in Try to Remember, has returned to the girl band narrative once again. How far back can we trace the roots of K-pop, and how many girl bands were there in the process? The history of Korean girl groups is inseparable from the history of the US Eighth Army stationed in South Korea. Behind the external glamour of girl groups lies the shadow of the divided Korean Peninsula and the presence of the US military. Some girl bands, like the Kim Sisters, achieved success, while others were forgotten for various reasons. This film serves as a tribute to the forgotten heroes of K-pop, allowing us to listen to their lives and history. (Maeng Soojin)
