Synopsis

​ The cinematic documentary Song for a Black Dove, by Jacob Broe, Bill Frisell, Lee Konitz, Paul Motion, and Midori Takada, explores the lives and creative processes of world-renowned and prolific jazz musicians such as these.

Program Note

​ This marks the inaugural collaboration between Jorgen Leth, a pioneering Danish director renowned for his experimental documentary work, and the relatively young filmmaker Andreas Koefoed. Over a span of 14 years, Koefoed intimately documented the journey of guitarist Jakob Bro, capturing his encounters with extraordinary musicians revered across generations and borders. The film delves into ontological inquiries, delving into the experiences of esteemed jazz artists like Lee Konitz, Bill Frisell, and Midori Takada. (Lim Seaeun)

  • Director Jørgen Leth is a Danish poet and film director. His feature documentary The Five Obstruction premiered in Venice in 2003 and was Denmark's candidate for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar.
  • Andreas Koefoed
  • Director Andreas Koefoed was graduated as a documentary director from The National Film School of Denmark. His films have screened and won numerous awards at festivals around the world including IDFA, CPH:DOX, Full Frame, AFI Docs, Sheffield Doc Fest og Tribeca.
