Synopsis

​ The short film “Etude” tells the story of a defining episode in the life of 10-year-old Jafar. Coming from a family of musicians, Jafar refuses to practice music, preferring instead to play street soccer with his friends. At the center of the conflict in the film is the issue of a father and son who don't want to follow the profession that has been passed down through the family for generations. Jafar strives for freedom of choice.

Program Note

​ Zafar is a 10-year-old boy born and raised in a family of musicians. Being forced to take music classes at the same school his parents attended, Zafar's textbook is filled with cut-and-paste pictures of soccer players. Zafar is happier playing soccer on the street with his friends than sitting at a piano. The movie blends classic melodies accompanied by modest imagery and childlike innocence. (Kim Song-hee)

  • Mumin Latifi
  • Kodirov Muminjon Makhmadlatipovich (Mumin Latifi) was born on August 1996 in Tajikistan. From 2014 to 2018, he studied at the Tajik State Institute of Culture and Arts, specializing in directing a feature film and a TV movie. From December 2016to May 2017, he studied at the school of young cinematographers at the Tajikfilm film studio. Since 2019 and to this day he has been working in the state film studio "Tajikfilm" as a director and editor.
