Synopsis
In the 1960s, Latin Americans play their music all night long at the “Lescal” cabaret in Paris. Different instruments and nationalities blend together in a united, festive atmosphere. “It united Latin America through music.” The last witnesses of that era tell us the incredible story of how the ideals of Bolivarianism were fulfilled there. Thus we discover the golden age of Latin American music in France.
Program Note
L'Escale was a cabaret where Latin Americans gathered and enjoyed themselves in 1960s Paris. Leaving their homelands and living as immigrants in France, Latin Americans would gather at the cabaret l'Escale every night to perform their homeland's music and to share reminiscences. It is reminiscent of the film Buena Vista Social Club, where forgotten musicians from the past and the spaces they used to perform in are recalled. Rather than relying on remaining footage from the past, the film takes the form of interviews with people who remember those times, allowing the audience to reconstruct memories of that era.
