Synopsis
When 28-year-old Margot meets Daniel, their chemistry is intense and immediate. But Margot represses her sudden attraction. She's happily married to Lou, a famous cookbook author. Her confidence in her domestic life is shattered when she discovers that Daniel is living across the street. She and Daniel steal every moment of Toronto's steamy summer, and their eroticism is heightened by their restraint. The movie leads to questions about the impact of old relationships on love, sex, and self-image.
Program Note
A signal of love. This film depicts the beginning and end of a relationship with intricate psychological descriptions. The lyrics of the theme song, Take This Waltz by Leonard Cohen, draw inspiration from Lorca, the national poet of Spain, and detail the circumstances of protagonist Margo. The music only flows inside the house and not outside which showcases how psychological descriptions can vary in detail according to the music filling the space. You can see the montage featuring the theme song towards the end and the scrambler scene in the final ending, along with the changes in music and the actors' expressions. (Kim Tae-seong)
