Synopsis
Formed in 1997, the Korean indie band Huckleberry Finn has been credited with proving the very reason for the existence of the Korean indie scene. Named among the 100 Greatest Korean Albums and recognized at the Korean Music Awards, the band continues to evolve. This documentary traces the recent music and band activities of Huckleberry Finn—alongside reflections on the current and future state of rock music—through the interviews and daily movements of frontman Lee Ki-yong.
Program Note
What has become of Huckleberry Finn, one of Korea’s first-generation indie rock bands since their 1998 debut? “People don’t really listen to our music anymore,” frontman Lee Ki-yong admits candidly. From that honest confession, the documentary unfolds with a grounded look into the band’s present life and creative routine. Steering clear of cheap nihilism, the members simply carry on with the music they’re capable of making. Their quiet persistence resonates deeply with anyone striving through their own ordinary life. The film also features powerful live sequences of the band’s greatest hits—from their debut to their seventh album—delivering the thrill of a concert experience. (Park Kkot)
