- ‘Cinema Concert Performer’ - Riley Lee
- Riley Lee, a Chinese-American born in Texas in 1951, discovered the traditional Japanese instrument shakuhachi during a trip to Japan in 1971. He studied with masters of shakuhachi for over ten years. By 1980, he had been recognized as a "grand master" in Japanese traditional music. Since 1986, he has moved to Australia, where he organizes various festivals and academic events related to shakuhachi in Sydney. Riley Lee has released over 50 shakuhachi performance albums and has worked on programs where he plays live to accompany screenings of silent films by Yasujiro Ozu, helping to popularize shakuhachi music.
