Synopsis
Shortly before the start of music class, where the teacher forces the students to sing as a punishment, Hansel, a high school student, realizes that she has forgotten to bring her recorder. For Hansel, the idea of singing in front of her classmates is worse than death, so she rushes home to get her flute. But due to her urinary incontinence, she starts peeing little by little on the way.
Program Note
Sensitive high school student Hansel, who suffers from urinary incontinence, suddenly realizes just before the dreadful music class—where students are punished by being forced to sing—that she has forgotten her recorder, an item required for class. The film captures the awkward and vulnerable teenage years' small moments of embarrassment that everyone can relate to. Hansel: Two School Skirts, directed by Lim Jisun, who co-directed Kim Min-young of the Report Card, shares a similar sharp sense of reality, capturing subtle emotional shifts amidst awkward situational comedy. Lim’s unique directorial style, which is rare in Korean cinema, continues to make us look forward to seeing her future works. (Choi Eunyoung)
