Synopsis

Two men meet and confront each other over a woman. Visibly different in appearance, the two men engage in a continuous battle of nerves. While the woman steps out to use the restroom, the men go up to the rooftop and start arm wrestling. What makes this work unique is its portrayal of the woman's psychology through opera.

Program Note

The short film Force of Love, directed by Sung Ehyun, better known as the film composer MOWG, humorously explores the absurd standoff between two men vying for the affection of one woman. The film is inspired by the famous aria Habanera from Bizet's opera Carmen. In a virtual café, the two men and the woman, caught in a love triangle, are each lost in their own conflicting dreams and delusions. Much like the lyrics of Habanera, which sing of fickle love, the childish power struggle between the two men may, in fact, reveal the true nature of desire—something often beautifully disguised as love.   • Sung Ehyun has been working as a jazz musician in New York and Seoul since 1993 under the stage name MOWG. Since the mid-2000s, he has been working as a film music composer between the United States and Korea. From 2020, he is also active in the art world through sound art and media art.
