Synopsis

Man-deok, an old man who wants to end his meaningless life, heads to the junkyard in an old truck as instructed by a shaman, but encounters Hong-dan, a migrant worker who appears to be in danger.

Program Note

The impoverished elderly man, Man-deok, has decided that he wants to end his life. As he heads to the scrapyard to have his lifelong companion, his truck, scrapped and to metaphorically dispose of himself as well, he encounters Hong-dan, a migrant worker who is stranded on the street after her water breaks. Man-deok decides to take her to the hospital. Faced with the contrasting situations of death and birth, the two protagonists come to realize through their brief journey together that the spirit of solidarity can be a form of salvation for both.   • Born in Daegu in 1992. Majored in Filmmaking at Seoul Institute of the Art and Korean Academy of Film Arts. The Old Car(2024) is his fourth short film.
