Synopsis

René Clément
Born in 1913 and passing away in 1996, René Clément was a leading figure in French cinema. Originally trained in architecture, he began his career in documentary filmmaking. He rose to international fame with *The Battle of the Rails* (1945), which depicted the French Resistance during World War II and won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. He went on to create masterpieces like *Forbidden Games* (1951) and *Gervaise* (1956). The success of his 1960 thriller *Plein Soleil* led him to focus more on crime dramas in later years.
