Synopsis

*La Strada*, winner of the 1957 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, is Fellini’s first true masterpiece. The young and naive Gelsomina is sold to the brutish street performer Zampano and becomes his assistant. After witnessing him murder a friend, she falls into deep trauma and is eventually abandoned. Anthony Quinn and Giulietta Masina deliver unforgettable performances portraying lives drifting on the fringes of society, accompanied by the hauntingly melancholic solo trumpet score by Nino Rota.

Director

Federico Fellini

Born in 1920, Fellini followed traveling theater troupes as a child. From his 1950 debut *Variety Lights* to his final film *The Voice of the Moon* in 1990, he directed over 20 films, becoming one of Italy’s most iconic filmmakers. After gaining fame with *La Strada* (1954), he continued to make critically acclaimed films such as *La Dolce Vita*, *8½*, *Casanova*, *Amarcord*, and *And the Ship Sails On*, winning the Academy Award five times throughout his career.
