Synopsis

Marcel Camus

Originally a teacher of painting and sculpture, Marcel Camus entered the film industry as an assistant director to Alexandre Astruc. He was a notable figure in the French film scene during the 1950s and 60s. Although many of his works dealt with war, they were often lyrical in tone. His most celebrated film, (1959), brought him international acclaim, winning awards both at the Cannes Film Festival and the Academy Awards.
