Synopsis

Lü is the rhythm of rules of the game, it is the spirit of the heroes of heaven and earth, of the power that corrupts, of desires that breed the greed, of the vanishing footprints of humans across thousands of miles, and birds faintly traced among the endless mountains. The final success of the power game is like fishing alone in a frosted river and burying your sword among the forest of rocks.

  • Born in 1947 in China and based in Hong Kong, Yonfan is a director and photographer. He made his debut in 1984 with Diary of a Lady and rose to prominence with his 1988 film The Story of Rose. His 1999 film Bishonen gained international attention after being invited to the Berlin International Film Festival, and in 2001, Peony Pavilion was selected by TIME magazine as one of the ten best films of the year.
