Synopsis

Jonas, a young man on the run, arrives in Berlin just in time to save Ruth’s life. Evicted from her apartment, Ruth, an ageing Jewish cabaret singer, saw no other way out than suicide. As Ruth recovers, she and Jonas begin to form a deep bond. As Jonas discovers Ruth’s past and takes part in her present, his attentions and the passionate Yiddish songs of her youth help her find the way back to life.

  • Uwe Janson studied sociology, political science, and German literature. He began working as an assistant director in 1986 and made his directorial debut with the film The Way of the Hunted in 1990. In 2001, he directed his second feature film, Night in the Park. His 2011 TV series Danni Lowinski earned him the German Comedy Award, and his 2013 film The Minister was nominated for Best Picture at the German Film Awards (Lola).
