Synopsis

Maiko’s destiny was decided before she was born. Her name Maiko means ‘dancing child.’ Her mother sold their house and car to send 14 year old Maiko to the most prestigious dancing school in Europe. She knew she couldn't return to Japan as a failure. Today, Maiko is 32 at the peak of her career as a prima ballerina at Norwegian National Ballet. Maiko is not a young dancer anymore and talented newcomers are longing for her position. Competition is getting tougher when Maiko decides to start a family...

  • Born in 1977 in Tromsø, northern Norway, she made her directorial debut with Our Man in Kirkenes (2010). She is also one of the directors of the award-winning Norwegian TV series A Piece of Thailand. Together with the production company Sant & Usant, she has produced two documentaries: Maiko: Dancing Child and Around the Table with My Family.
