Synopsis

Documentary about the intimate world of pianist Ivo Janssen, on an Amsterdam canal. The musician plays to be heard, but he has his own special way. He decides to build a concert venue below decks of his barge. But the venture has its setbacks. Gradually it becomes clear that he suffers from Dupuytren’s disease, causing his hands to slowly contract, if it is not treated. He passionately and tenaciously continues to play his music and build his concert hall.

  • Hokze Hope was born in 1973 in the Netherlands and studied documentary filmmaking at the Art Academy. She has spent over 20 years editing Dutch drama series and documentaries, including several works made for NCRV Dokument and Holland Doc. Bach on the Barge is her directorial debut.
