Synopsis

​ Tralala, a 40-something singer singing on the streets of Paris, meets a very beautiful young woman one night. Before she disappears, she sends him a message. “Above all, don't be yourself”. He leaves Paris and finally finds her in Lourdes, but she doesn't remember him. Meanwhile, a woman in her 60s believes him to be her son Pat, who disappeared 20 years earlier in the United States. When Tralala decides to become her son, he discovers a new family and a talent he never knew he had.

​ Lourdes, a renowned Catholic pilgrimage site known for the apparitions of the Virgin Mary, is the hometown of the Larrieux brothers. Amidst the relentless COVID-19 pandemic, they returned to their hometown in the summer of 2020 to create a film that weaves together a vivacious "comedy of errors" and a bittersweet musical. With pilgrimages suspended due to the pandemic, a cinematic "another world" unfurls in Lourdes, oscillating between classic Hollywood musicals and French musicals epitomized by Jacques Demy (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and The Young Girls of Rochefort), between Chaplinesque humor and Renoirian exuberance.   • Arnaud and Jean-Marie Larrieu first caught the film-making bug in the company of their grandfather, who made his own 16 mm films. Infected by the virus, the brothers direct home-made Super 8 film. The brothers will make their feature filmmaking debut together in 1999 with Fin D'ete. A buzz that will reap benefits when it comes to casting To Paint or Make Love before selection in the official competition at Cannes last May brings the name of the Larrieu brothers to the attention not just of French audiences but to filmgoers the world over. Tralala(2021) was selected for IFFR 2022 and at CANNES Film Festival 2021 (Midnight Screening).
