Synopsis

​ In the most unlikely of global geopolitical locations - cowboy boots and rodeos - 30 of the world's most promising musicians converge on Fort Worth, Texas, for the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. With a shot at the golden prize and classical piano stardom, the contestants endure six grueling performances, multiple competitions, and a panel of discerning judges. Behind the scenes, the pianists tell stories of adversity, sacrifice, and heartbreak as they strive to perform at the highest level. As fan favorites and early contenders are eliminated, a shy genius emerges to take the lead.

Program Note

​ The internationally acclaimed Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2022 produced its youngest winner, Lim Yunchan, capturing attention worldwide. Crescendo is a film that revolves around that year's Van Cliburn. However, the movie goes beyond highlighting the winner's moment of glory. The camera delves into the experiences of the other competitors, capturing their moments of joy and sorrow. From the twists and turns of family history to the war in Ukraine, there are intimate stories that transcend the outcome of the contest. (Jin. Cho)
