Synopsis
Travel back in time to the birthplace of electronic music. A journey through the history of electronic music centered in Cologne. From the electronic music studios of WDR, Stockhausen and CAN to Kompakt and A-Musik, the film traces the roots of new musical creations to the vibrant clubs of today, and fascinatingly shows how many artists are connected to each other through lines of inspiration, influential clubs, labels and record stores. Program Note
This music documentary explores the origin, history, development, and significance of electronic music that originated in Cologne in the 1950s. Through interviews with experts who played a vital role in its evolution, the film captures the comprehensive history of electronic music that has spanned several decades, including contributions from electronic studios of Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR), Herbert Eimert, known as the father of electronic music, and composer Karlheinz Stockhausen. This documentary highlights the unique relationship between Cologne and electronic music by showcasing representative songs and immersing viewers in the captivating scenery and daily life that have inspired to the cultivation of this genre. - Kristina Schippling
- After completing her studies in German. The Sound of Cologne is Kristina's first documentary feature film as director and DoP. She was credited with Additional Interviews and Dramaturgical Counseling for CAN and Me. Kristina works for film festivals and created dozens of trailers and educational films. She completed the 2020 Documentary Campus Masterschool and attended two years of Meisner-Acting with Hendrik Martz.
